Rare Helen....Remixed (Part Two)

Here is another remixed collection of some rare "first time on Youtube" Helen videos. The centerpiece of this compilation is an ultra rare video where Helen finally meets her match as she dances with her greatest partner yet - herself. :e :e

In addition, rare trailers for Don, Raja Jani, and Amar Akbar Anthony are featured throughout the video :tup. Enjoy :)

Madhumati as Helen in Suno Zindagi Gaati Hai

Helen had many copycats throughout her long and storied career in Bollywood. But none was more blatant than Madhumati. Here she performs in Suno Zindagi Gaati Hai from Pagla Kahin Ka (1970); during which she hopelessly mimics Helen while Helen bemusedly watches from the audience.

Often imitated, never duplicated. There is only one Helen. Don’t be fooled by impostors.

Chutney Music

According to Wikepedia, Chutney music is a form indigenous to the southern Caribbean, popular in Guyana, Trinidad and Suriname. It derives elements from traditional Indian music and popular Trinidadian Soca music. This contemporary fusion of genres was created by Indo-Caribbean people whose ancestors were from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal and the South Indian area around Madras. Enjoy Guyana's Terry Gajraj and Trinidad's Rikki Jai as each performs one of their biggest hits. This is followed by a video from a fine local band from Suriname.

Helen on Blu-ray

My most ambitious project yet: Helen on Blu-ray.

42 videos in glorious 16X9 Widescreen High Defintion. This collection was compiled from the very best sources available. Many thanks to those who contributed some high quality videos that I used for this Blu-ray. As usual, most videos were remastered and improved to the best of my ability with various Avisynth and Virtualdub filters.

Friends and family of Mister Naidu say it just might be the best thing he's ever done. :$

Long live Helenji :)

Unfortunately, I won't be making this available for download. The size of this Blu-ray is just too large (20gb)...and the audience for this is simply too small. :( Btw, this is the 100th post of this humble little blog which debuted 4 years ago on April 20, 2009. :party They said it wouldn't last. But somehow it has against all odds o_O Will there be a 101st???...stay tuned :)

Video of the week

Absolutely <3 Kabhi Kabhi Saiyyan Sharaab Pikey Aaye from Raakhi And Rifle (1976). Helen dances in perfect synchronization :o with the heavy beat of the tabla in accompaniment with the unique and lovely sound of the harmonium. :tup

I remastered this video that was taken from a low resolution VCD and I think it came out rather well...if I must say so myself
:$.

Rare Helen....Remixed

Here is a remixed collection of some rare "first time on Youtube" Helen videos. In addition, one super rare non-Helen video is featured throughout the video :tup. If there's enough interest, most of these videos will appear in their original form on future DVD compilations that I may make. Enjoy :)

Helen - Woman of a Thousand Faces

Silent film star Lon Chaney was known as the Man of a Thousand Faces due to his ability to transform himself into the many different characters in his films. But I think that since Helen had so many different looks throughout her long and storied career, that she should be thought of as the female counterpart to Mr. Chaney. So, I've created a short slideshow to prove my point. Enjoy :)

Ankh Ladti Hai Lad Jane De - Parmatma (1978)

Fantabulous dance and song from Parmatma (1978). Helen gyrates her hips mightily while showing off her curvaceous Latin figure. Latin? Yes, she's 75% Latin & 25% Burmese :tup. For this song, she's in full-blown hippie mode. She wears tight hip-hugging bell bottom pants along with a sexy knot blouse, and tops off her attire with a headband around her long brown hair. Groovy! \m/ Also, the video of the song is simply fantastic 8).

Ankh Ladti Hai Lad Jane De is a really great western-sounding song that could have fit nicely in any Santana album from that era. Electric guitar and Moog Synthesizer are featured prominently throughout the track and in most of the songs in the movie. K Babauji wrote the soundtrack, and many of the songs have a strong RD Burman vibe, Parmatma Title Music and Suraangini Kamaal Karegi in particular. Imo, Parmatma may be the best RD Burmanesque soundtrack written by someone else. One can only hope that someday someone rips it from a vinyl LP and gives it the spotlight it so richly deserves.

Btw, Ankh Ladti Hai Lad Jane De has been added to the Radio Helen playlist. Enjoy!
:)

Here's a short video recap of Helen's life and career in Hindi. Watch for the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award footage with Salman Khan, which they lifted from my upload that I made 2 years ago on YouTube. You're welcome, Ultra. xD
